April 5, 2019 National Poetry Writing Month

Waking up

The pain is still there.
Keep your eyes closed.
What time is it?
Is she still here?
What day is it?
Keep your eyes closed.
What was I dreaming?
Something about a passion pit.
We were watching a movie.
Who was that with me?
Keep your eyes closed.
I’m still breathing.
My heart is still going.
I didn’t die during the night.
The pain is still there.
Keep your eyes closed.
Thank you, God, for another day.
No, not now bladder.
Keep your eyes closed.
