Love in Isolation

While a deadly stalking coronavirus
Silently crept thru springtime shadows
Preparing to grasp the breath from us,
Medically isolated in lonely boroughs,

For fourteen days she risked her life
Going store to store while social distancing
To find her husband's Beefsteak Rye
His favorite for sandwich making.

Greater love hath no woman than this
To hunt and gather in jungles of germs
Pushing wobbling carts through deadly mists
Until long-empty shelves were reaffirmed.
